The ‘debt ceiling’ whose lifting Republicans hold hostage is no longer rooted in law. It is superseded by ‘later in time’ Congressional budgets and was void ab initio, at least as Republicans pretend to interpret it, under our Constitution. President Biden may, must, and will simply ignore it.
