How could you make profits off the 5G phenomenon?
Good day, everyone,
What is 5G?
First and foremost, 5G is going to change your life over the next decade. Artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), Internet of Things (IoT) are all being developed at the same time as the 5G network. The synergies between these new technological advances can create applications we can’t yet imagine.
5G refers to the 5th generation wireless technology. Its intended purpose is to provide faster and higher capacity transmissions to carry the massive amount of data that industry projects will be generated from the Internet of Things (IoT), Smart Cities, driverless cars, video streaming, augmented reality and more.
5G brings three new features to telecommunication networks. Greater speed to move more data, lower latency to be more responsive, and the ability to connect a lot more devices at once for sensors and smart devices.
5G speeds will be ten times faster than the wireless speeds we know today and will eliminate latency (or lag time), enabling technologies that need instant, seamless connectivity. 5G will push technologies like autonomous vehicles, virtual reality, and remote surgery and will herald a new era of smart bodies, homes, cities, farms, and cars.
5G is just beginning to roll out with the first 5G phones available and networks operating in select markets. Verizon’s 5G in Chicago, covers parts of downtown and seems to get about 300 feet of distance from each cell site. AT&T’s 5G in Dallas gets about 1.3Gbps speeds and about 600 feet of range, but only at two locations in the city.
5G investments will continue for the next decade.
The massive amounts of data that 5G will be able to transmit will create the ability to connect just about everything that is currently transmitted over the 4G network and WiFi, and so much more. Estimates tell us that eventually 30 billion devices will operate over the 5G network. For perspective, that over 4 devices for every human on earth.
5G will also create a shift in network billing models. Instead of human users with monthly mobile phone subscriptions, 5G users will be billions of machines and sensors.
The real value of the 5G network will not be apparent for a few years for a couple of reasons:
First, it takes a while for developers to create applications for new networks. 4G came out in 2010 and it took time (years) before we had Snapchat, Video Conferencing and Uber and LTE, platforms developed on the 4G network. Compared to 4G, 5G will transmit massive amounts of data at tremendously faster speeds. One intriguing aspect of the 5G network is that we don’t even know what we can end up doing on it.
Secondly is infrastructure. Rather than the huge, geographically dispersed cell towers that characterize LTE networks and its predecessors, many of the 5G networks will be composed of small cells. Consumers should expect to see 5G antennas placed throughout their cities, every few blocks, blending in with the local environment. Antennas will even have a place in homes. That’s a lot of infrastructure.
According to Accenture, the 5G rollout will create 3 million American jobs and drive over $500 billion U.S. GDP growth. But to get to that point, estimates indicate that $2.7 trillion will be invested and $ 1 trillion will be on infrastructure alone.
Before we experience the wonders of the 5G network, the infrastructure has to be built physically. New, smaller towers/antennae, upgrades to the existing networks, fiber connections and more.
We have been looking over the players in the network infrastructure building market, trying to find a value stock that we think could yield significant gains in the near term. We found one. Look for our text messages and emails tomorrow morning and see how you might make a profit off the 5G spending explosion.
